Introduction:
Hello!
My name is Nancy Gorelick, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and have been actively counseling since 2010. I consider myself very blessed as I truly love what I do, and unfortunately that is not too common! I feel very honored to work with individuals, couples and families and go through their journey together. I like to provide support, encouragement, and empower clients to achieve their goals, and set out objectives as how they would like to do this. I also feel it is imperative to strive for a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for clients to process what is necessary.
I have an eclectic approach and utilize multiple methods of therapy to varying degrees. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client Centered, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Family Therapy, Solution Focused Behavior Therapy, Psychodynamic Counseling, Interpersonal Counseling, Existential Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Counseling, Reality Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy and minimal Exposure Therapy. I feel that a variety of approaches is necessary, as I feel that each client and session is unique and tailored to the client’s needs and goals. I also feel it is very important to have a good understanding of ethnicity and culture, to be sure to understand where the client is coming from.
I often work with a variety of people (individuals, couples, children, adolescents, teens, adults and families), helping them through their past or current situation, and achieving their personal desired goals. Many common issues that I address in therapy include managing and reducing symptomology of disorders such as, Depression, Bi-polar disorders, Anxiety, Phobias, ADHD, mild-moderate Autism, OCD and Trauma related disorders. Also commonly included in counseling sessions may be topics like self-esteem, mindfulness, friendships, and having healthy interpersonal relationships, standing up for ourselves respectfully, learning healthy life skills, utilizing effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills, understanding flexibility and compromise, learning the three modes of communication, and developing relaxation skills for the mind and the body. I also work with individuals coping with situational events, such as divorce, accidents, and grief/loss.
I actively pursue seminars to enhance my knowledge in the latest treatments and techniques. My goal is to merge these updated techniques with previous knowledge and experience to help others more proficiently. I have a thirst for knowledge when it comes to the brain, and why we do things, so I often gather new and updated information on the topics I practice and learn new topics along the way!
Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. If you would like to request a 15 minute consultation I will be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have! I can be reached at 248-595-9969. Thank you again!!
